Über Interns

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Being the progressive app developer that we are here at Übermind, we’re always looking for fresh minds and new perspectives to bring on board.  We put our heads together and realized we were missing that little bit of spice that every great company needs… interns.  So, we scoured the Seattle area searching for the best and the brightest that the local universities had to offer.  In spite of our good intentions, at the end of the day we had to settle for Adam and Jeff.

Just kidding, guys (interns can be so sensitive).

Jeff is a top notch design student from Lake Washington Technical College and Adam is an ambitious young business student from Seattle Pacific University and is here as our marketing intern.  We’re excited to have them both in the office and, judging by their picture, they’re really excited to be here as well.  They’ll be with us for the next ten weeks or so in what promises to be a learning experience for everyone involved.

Nexus One vs. myTouch vs. DROID vs. iPhone 3GS

Friday, January 15th, 2010

At the end of 2009, we promised that we’d bring even more mobile data and analysis to you. Well, promised fulfilled! As a leading app developer for the iPhone and Android platforms, we see more RFPs for app projects and ventures than we can count! Couple that with ongoing analysis of the smartphone space as well as our 10+ years of engineering large backend systems / web services to make a solid foundation for making heads and tails of this dynamic, fast moving industry.

2010 – well, at least the first month or so – will certainly be the year of Android, but not necessarily the way some have predicted. 2010 is the year where companies / brands will look at the Android platform and wonder, “Is Android ready for our product(s) / service(s) / clients?” A total valid question in the opinion of us humble Über-bloggers. The estimated first week sales from the mobile metric masters at Flurry paint an interesting picture:

38,000+ web applications running on Heroku speaks volumes to the reliability of their multi-tenant platform and hosting environment. What’s Better Than Best?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

This post is going to be short and sweet for three reasons; one — you like us for our web, desktop, and mobile applications, not our blog posts [tear]. Two — because we’d rather get back to creating and / or improving the apps you know (or will know) and love (or will love). Finally, three — because it’s not really easy to talk about what makes “best” better… kind of makes us think of all those “tree falling in the woods” analogies… the silence is deafening…

Any way, the good news is that Best Camera is now… well, better. We made an unprecedented effort to quickly add the following highly demanded revisions to Best Camera and then send to our friends at Apple for approval — don’t forget to thank them too!

New Version 1.0.1 Features:

  • Fixed issues with Facebook captions
  • Reset zoom with double-tap
  • Faster Best Camera & Twitter upload speeds

If anything, we hope this expeditious update shows our deep appreciation for all you Best Camera users as well as the fact that we actually read, and listen to, the feedback which you send us — keep it coming!

To Future Bestness,

The Best Camera

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

At Übermind, one of our favorite things — aside from puppies and ice cream — is when we get to work with people who are as passionate about their line of work as we are about software development!

When it came time to develop a truly innovative camera and image editing application for the iPhone and iPod Touch, we had the good fortune of working just down the street from world-renowned photographer, Chase Jarvis, who we partnered with on the game-changing photography app, Best Camera, which is part of Chase’s photography trifecta consisting:

Check out Chase’s video explaining this revolution…

We know what your asking yourself — and the answer is, “Yes, even though the App Store has over 1,300 apps in the Photography category, we were able to bring users a high quality camera app that they feel good about paying for.” Now, you are probably asking yourself how we can make such a bold statement after only one day of existence on the App Store. Well, the numbers don’t lie — #4 in Top Paid Photography Apps, #19 in Top Grossing Apps, and #21 in Top Paid Apps for the entire App Store. All we can say is a big “Thank you!” to all the iPhone and iPod Touch users who support our mobile endeavors and the belief that a quality app is worth its price.
